Kaisei means "Ocean Planet" in Japanese. The Kaisei Project is a non-profit organization located both in Hong Kong and San Francisco, which has been created to increase people awareness and understanding upon marine debris and its impact on oceans and our marine environment in general. The project, which official website is projectkaisei.org, tries to highlight how everyone can help for the prevention and cleaning of oceans.
The project is mainly focused on the North Pacific Gyre, a large amount of debris in one of the major ecosystem of our planet. To attain these goals, the project Kaisei tries to bring together private organizations and public institutions to make improvements both in science, prevention and remediation.
Kaisei is also the name of a research vessel, which enabled to get a wide range of samples from North Pacific Ocean. Those debris collected by the ship are currently being analyzed.
Obviously, do not hesitate to sponsor the project to help achiveving the ecological goal to take care of the Oceans and especially the North Pacific Gyre.
In summer 2010, Kaisei Project will launch another expedition to the North Pacific Gyre to continue the research of marine debris. This expedition will try to test a better way to collect marine debris and, if possible, to recycle these materials.
